Imagine the look on your kid's face when you pop this little Christmas cookie covered in sprinkles in front of them! These adorable cookies are easy to make, are super customizable when it comes to the season you are celebrating - simply change out the sprinkles used, and taste delicious.

🍪 Christmas Kiss Cookies With Sprinkles

I love a good Christmas cookie, and although I tend to stick to the more traditional cookies for myself, the kids love a good cookie covered in sprinkles and sporting a nice Hershey's Kiss right in the middle.

They love helping to make these cookies, and they get devoured every time we make them.

If your school or daycare allows sweet treats for the Holidays then brighten up your kid's lunchbox with one of these cookies. If not, then save it for when they get home and serve it with a nice big glass of cold milk.

    🧂 Ingredients You Need

No fancy ingredients are needed here, pretty much what you would find in any cookie, but we will run through some ingredients just to be sure you aren't left with any questions.

    You will need:

    • all purpose flour: this is otherwise known as plain flour
    • salted butter: pull it out of the fridge an hour or two before you need it so that it has softened to room temperature
    • white sugar: I have made these using an equal amount of sugar alternative, and it worked out fine, however, I would reduce to about ¾ cup as they were a little sweeter than I would have liked
    • egg: an average sized egg was used for this recipe
    • milk: whatever milk you prefer will work just fine here
    • vanilla extract: not to be confused with vanilla essence
    • salt
    • baking soda
    • Hershey kisses: these are used for the blossom in the middle of the cookie. If you do not have these chocolates where you live then you could use a mini peanut butter cup, a role, or a chunk of chocolate instead
    • Christmas sprinkles: I chose red for this batch, but feel free to mix it up. If you prefer not to use sprinkles then you could use desiccated coconut mixed with a little bit of food coloring to give you a similar colorful effect.

📋 How To Make Christmas Sprinkle Cookies

Ok first things first, if you have a stand mixer then go on ahead and grab that out of the cupboard. If you don't have one it's all good, you can definitely mix by hand, but be sure to have your butter softened a fair bit.

Next, unwrap the Hershey's kisses, pop them on a plate, and then into the fridge. We want them to be nice and cold when it comes time to press them into the warm cookies.

Preheat your oven and let's get going.

Pretty standard here: we add all of the dry ingredients to a bowl, add all of the wet ingredients to a bowl, add the wet to the dry, and mix until well combined and you have a nice cookie dough.

Use a cookie scoop to scoop up your cookie balls, roll them in the Christmas sprinkles, pop them onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and repeat until all the cookie dough has been used up.

Pop them into the oven and pull them out in about 10 minutes, or when the edges are golden and the cookies are set.

Now you are going to want to grab those cold kisses and push them into the tops of the cookies. Let the cookies cool on the tray for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

    💭 Important Teaching Tips

Store completely cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for about 4 days. If you still have some left over after the 4 days then you can freeze them by popping them on a single layer onto a tray that will fit into the freezer, freezing, and then transferring to a Ziploc bag for up to 3 months.

Be sure to write the date of freezing on the Ziploc bag, as it is easy to forget a couple of months down the track.

    🍽  Serving Suggestions

Now, as these are sweet you are going to want to balance out the lunchbox with some healthy options.

I would pack a Christmas kiss cookie with:

    • a small fruit salad
    • some chopped carrots and cucumber with a side of tzatziki
    • some plain rice crackers and slices of cheese
    • and these Easy Sandwich Pinwheels With Spinach and Pastrami
